Ahmedabad: Indian women’s cricket legend Mithali Raj has a new mission. Mithali has been appointed as the team mentor for Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League. The Gujarat team is owned by the Adani Sports Line Group. Adani Group said in a press release that Mithali will work at the grassroots level to promote women’s cricket in Gujarat. Apart from Ahmedabad, the teams have selected the cities of Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Lucknow.

The second and third place teams will meet in the playoffs. The women’s IPL has surpassed the world’s leading men’s T20 leagues in value with an auction worth Rs 4,670 crore. Both capped and uncapped players had an opportunity to register for the auction. The last date to register was January 26.

For the capped players, the bidding will start at a base price of Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. 20 lakhs and 10 lakhs for uncapped players. Earlier, the report came out that each team can include eighteen players in the team, including six foreign players.

Australian player Alyssa Healy said that women’s cricket will have a boom like the IPL, which has brought about huge changes in Indian cricket. The star auction for the tournament scheduled for March will be held next month. Each team can spend Rs 12 crore. Teams can select 15 to 18 players.
