Ahmedabad: The Bhupendra Patel government of the state will legally crack down on black magic, tantric rituals in Gujarat. The state government will bring a law to stop them. The Gujarat government has taken this big step to bring a law to curb illegal tantric activities, black magic and Aghori rituals, which sometimes result in the sacrifice of women and children. The Home Department has informed the Gujarat High Court that the government will bring a draft bill in the next session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for enactment to curb inhuman activities like black magic and Aghori practices. The decision was taken after the High Court sought a response from the government on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the All India Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti last month.
Government is serious about the strictness of High Court
The Akhil Bharatiya Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti is active in eliminating superstitious practices similar to the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Ugly Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. Harsh Rawal, counsel for the NGO, cited similar laws in Karnataka, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Assam. Following the PIL, the state government held a meeting with the additional chief secretary of the home department, DGP (law and order) and ADGP (CID) crime on July 23 to discuss the issue. A week later, the home department informed the high court that a draft bill would be introduced in the next assembly session.

Women and children become victims
The Gujarat government can present this bill in the session starting this month. The Gujarat High Court had said in its order on the 12th of last month that the state government needs to clarify its stand to stop inhuman practices that violate constitutional provisions. The petitioner has highlighted such cases where fraudulent people perform tantric rituals related to the sacrifice of children and women by posing as God, Aghori, Bhuv and Ojha. Many cases were presented in the court on behalf of the committee. This included the case of murder of a minor girl. She was murdered after a secret ritual by calling her a witch.
