Kuwait’s new move is a heavy blow to expats. The issuance of driving licenses to expatriates has been suspended till further notice. Home Ministry Undersecretary Lt. About seven lakh expatriates have their driving licenses registered with the General Administration’s computer.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has taken steps to revoke the old valid driving licenses and issue new ones. The local newspaper reported that the traffic department had announced that the driving licenses of 250,000 expatriates would be revoked in the process. The committee in charge of this has started functioning this month. It will take at least three months to complete. The main purpose of this project is to reduce traffic congestion on Kuwaiti roads.
The total number of licenses issued is more than three million .It is estimated that the number of new driver’s licenses will be reduced from one valid to about one million. Most importantly, many driving licenses are forged. In addition, the authorities cite changes in the current system of issuing new driving licenses, as well as expatriates who have lost their residency or left Kuwait.
