Gunpo City Sanbon Public Health Branch held the ‘Smoking-free, ever-green citizen health plogging’ event at Sanbon Rodeo Street on October 23rd.
About 80 people, including the Anti-Smoking Guardians, 68 volunteers who conduct anti-smoking guidance and promotional activities based in 12 buildings and affiliated organizations, the Rodeo Merchant Prosperity Association, the Evergreen Senior Welfare Center volunteer group, citizens’ health committee members, and related public officials, participated in the Sanbon Rodeo Street. We walked through each district to raise awareness about quitting smoking and carried out environmental cleanup activities such as picking up cigarette butts.
Sanbon Public Health Branch has been promoting the “Gunpo Citizen Walking Project” since 2019. This year, we are taking the lead in spreading the walking culture among citizens through the “Gunpo Citizen Walking King Project.”
This day’s event was also planned as part of that, and even though the weather suddenly became chilly after the rain stopped, it was a meaningful time for many volunteers to practice healthy living and strengthen their will to quit smoking by picking up trash and walking.
In addition, this event was promoted by registering for the “Gyeonggi-do Climate Action Opportunity Income” project, which provides rewards (local currency) according to the performance of Gyeonggi-do residents’ carbon reduction activities in order to reduce greenhouse gases through daily activities.
Lim Mi-ran, head of the Sanbon Public Health Branch, said, “We sincerely thank the citizens who participated despite the cold weather. Although Rodeo Drive has been designated as a no-smoking street, the area is still experiencing difficulties due to cigarette butts and smoke due to smokers. We will continue to do our best to create a clean, non-smoking environment by cooperating with various organizations such as anti-smoking guardians, volunteers, and commercial prosperity associations. “We will continue to promote various programs and events to help citizens lead healthy lives,” he said.
