Y.P.E.: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss this important initiative.
T.E.: To start off,can you give us an overview of the significance of this event for Gunpo City?
Y.P.E.: Absolutely! This event not only showcases the involvement of Gunpo’s youth in policy-making but also emphasizes the city’s commitment to fostering youth engagement. The try-out of Youth Space Flying, which opened just a few months ago, marks a new era where young people can express their voices and contribute to community policies that effect their lives.
T.E.: It’s inspiring to hear how the city is prioritizing youth voices. What can we expect during the “Mobile Mayor’s Office” segment of the meeting?
Y.P.E.: The Mobile Mayor’s Office is a brilliant concept that allows direct interaction between the youth and the local government. Attendees can expect a commendation ceremony recognizing individuals who have considerably contributed to youth policy. This will be followed by an interactive session where young people can share their thoughts, ideas, and challenges they face, creating a dialog that directly influences future youth initiatives.
T.E.: That sounds like a fantastic opportunity! In your opinion, how critically important is this direct communication between youth and local government officials?
Y.P.E.: It’s crucial! When young people feel that their voices are heard and valued, they are more likely to engage in civic activities. This communication fosters a sense of ownership over their community and instills the belief that they can enact change. It also helps local leaders understand the unique perspectives and needs of their youth, allowing for more relevant and effective policies.
T.E.: You mentioned that the Youth Space Flying has recently opened. how do spaces like this contribute to youth engagement?
Y.P.E.: Spaces like Youth Space Flying are essential as they provide a safe and welcoming surroundings for young people to gather, collaborate, and explore their interests. Such spaces encourage creativity and innovation, and they serve as a hub for leadership advancement programs, social activities, and educational workshops. Engaging youth in these vibrant settings can lead to a more active and participatory community.
T.E.: It must be incredible to see young people engaging in such constructive ways. How can other cities replicate Gunpo’s model?
Y.P.E.: Cities can take a page from Gunpo’s book by encouraging localized youth engagement initiatives. They should create platforms where young people can voice their needs and ideas, just as Gunpo is doing. Moreover, establishing dedicated spaces for youth, providing resources for leadership programs, and fostering partnerships between local governments and youth organizations will go a long way in building a more inclusive community.
T.E.: Before we wrap up, what message do you have for the youth in Gunpo City and beyond, based on this event?
Y.P.E.: I would say to all young people: your voices matter! Get involved,be active in your community, and never hesitate to speak up about the issues that matter to you. This meeting is a wonderful platform for that, and I encourage everyone to participate and share their perspectives. The future is yours to shape!
