Gunpo City Central Library announced that it will be holding a national book review contest, “Treasure Hunt at the Library,” to provide citizens with reading motivation and the joy of reading, and to foster them as mature, cultured citizens. Book reviews will be accepted from August 1 to August 29.
The book review contest is open to elementary, middle, and high school students and adults nationwide. Read one of the 20 monthly recommended books (July to December 2023) recommended by librarians at Gunpo City Library, write a book review, and submit it in person to the Central Library or via email ([email protected]). Click on the ‘2024 Gunpo City National Book Review Contest ‘Treasure Hunt at the Library’ Announcement’ on the Gunpo City Library website notice board, download the application form and book review writing form in the attached file, and fill them out.
There are three categories for submission: elementary school, middle and high school, and general. The books for the elementary school category are: Kids in the Science Detective Club (Yoon Ja-young), My Friend Granny Star (Lee Jo-eun), Minju’s Wise Political Life (Park Shin-sik), The Secret of Bokhee Soup (Kim Tae-ho), The Owl Who Takes a Shower (Jean Craighead George), Shh, My Heart is Growing (Muranaki Rie), Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter in the Neolithic Village (Na Eun-hee), The Bean Mask Teacher Smiled (Yoon Yeo-rim), Come Play at the Sunlight Energy Village (Im Jeong-eun), and The Day Hitler Stole the Pink Rabbit (Judith Kerr). There are 10 books.
Middle and high school students and the general section only need to read one of the ten books: Fake Labor (Dennis Noermark et al.), Moments That Require Decision (Russell Roberts), The World You Want to See (Jang Kang-myeong), Everyone’s Training (Kim Ryeo-ryeong), You Don’t Need Plastic Bags (Choi Jeong-hwa), Finally Finding the Right Temperature for My Heart (Jeong Yeo-ul), The Benevolent Discriminationist (Kim Ji-hye), Salt Child (Lee Hee-young), Adulthood After Adulthood (Moya Saner), and Hul Hul (Moon Kyung-min).
The entries will be evaluated for originality of content, completeness of structure, originality of theme, clarity of expression, etc., and a total of 18 excellent entries will be selected for each category, including the Grand Prize, Excellence Prize, and Encouragement Prize, and the winners will be announced at the end of September. The winners will be awarded the Gunpo Mayor’s Award and a cultural gift certificate.
Jeong Gu-jeong, the director of Gunpo City Central Library, said, “This is the first national book review contest held by Gunpo City Library, so I hope that many citizens who want to read books recommended by librarians and enjoy the pleasure of reading will actively participate.”
