On Monday evening, Günther Jauch (66) caused confusion on “Who wants to be a millionaire?”

The moderator believed that his wife Thea and candidate Maximilian Burkhardt (36) have something in common. But the quiz master was missing a crucial piece of information.

The rate fox had already earned 64,000 euros when Jauch wanted to shine with special knowledge. He to his counterpart: “Do you know that my wife and you, I think, have something in common?”

However, Burkhardt did not know what the moderator was alluding to. So Jauch became more specific: “The first celebrity that you met in your life was the same celebrity that my wife met for the first time in your life.”

But the candidate couldn’t make sense of that either. “I can only think of someone who is in the room right now,” puzzled Burkhardt, meaning Günther Jauch himself.

“Your wife has certainly met you before,” joked the restaurateur. Then the TV viewers learned that Burkhardt and Jauch met before “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”

As a 19-year-old, the man from Braunschweig presented the quiz master with the “Media Prize for Language Culture”. At the time, Burkhardt’s father was chairman of the “Society for the German Language”, which awarded Jauch the prize. In the quiz show, however, the moderator had another big name in mind. So the guesswork continued.

The moderator: “Which celebrity did you STILL meet?” The candidate thought of music legend James Last († 86). He had already met him in 2004. Jauch, who thought he was on the right track: “THIS was also the first celebrity that my wife met.”

Still, his story didn’t quite add up. As a student, Burkhardt was allowed to give a speech to the then Federal President Johannes Rau († 75) in Bellevue Palace. As an award for winning a competition at school.

Now Günther Jauch was really blown away. Impressed, he summarized his guest’s encounters as follows: “You gave a speech to Johannes Rau. James Last made the music for it. And then I got the prize from them.”

The quiz show was also great for the single. With only three instead of four jokers, Maximilian Burkhardt creamed off 125,000 euros in the end.
