“I started thinking about coaching in Voronezh. Perhaps it was this desire that helped me end up in this field.”

As reported by İdman.biz, Qarabag head coach Gurban Gurbanov stated this in an interview with the PFL YouTube channel.

The specialist, celebrating his 52nd birthday today, spoke about his career. The mentor recalled the unforgettable moments of life at Fakel:

“When I scored my first goals in Voronezh, I won the love of the fans. When I arrived in the city, everyone knew me. Everyone treated me very well. Voronezh is a football city. This is one of the most active cities in Russia. Since I arrived there, I have played many successful games. The head coach was Valery Georgievich Nenenko. We worked well with him. I played in the second round and we reached the Premier League. I spent a lot of time with Valery Shmarov. We stayed in the same room. The head coach was an interesting person. His relationship with all the players was very good. He was both demanding and liked to joke. He had a special sympathy for me. I was from the Caucasus. My character was different. He also valued hardworking people.”

Gurbanov remembers his first game in Voronezh well. He said that this club played a big role in his coaching career:

“Before the first game I was injured. Georgievich asked if you could play? I said, “Ready.” Entered the field and won 4:3. Draws were enough for us. I couldn’t even convert the penalty. But our other player finished off the ball and it ended up in the net. I scored the third and fourth goals. This game became an important reason for our promotion to the Major League. My first year in Russia was more memorable. After that year, I felt well the atmosphere prevailing in Russia.

Each player sets a goal for himself. At that time, our goal was to live the life of a legionnaire. I was also lucky enough to play in “Torch”. We managed to play in the Russian Premier League. Voronezh became the most memorable city in my legionary life. In recent years in Voronezh, I even began to think about a coaching career. I started recording some workouts. This desire helped me become a coach.”

It should be noted that after completing his football career, Gurban Gurbanov began working as a sporting director at Inter in 2005. The specialist was the head coach of Neftchi in the 2006-07 season. Gurbanov’s greatest historical successes are associated with Qarabag, which he has led since the summer of 2008. Under his leadership, the Agdam club won the Azerbaijani champion title 10 times and the national cup 5 times.
