Meanwhile, Guro-gu was selected as an excellent institution in the field of patient management at the ‘2024 Seoul Tuberculosis Control Project Evaluation Competition’ held at Seoul City Hall on the 24th.

This evaluation competition conducted quantitative evaluation (early detection, transmission interruption, patient management, government joint evaluation) and qualitative evaluation (autonomous district specialized project) on tuberculosis control projects promoted by 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, with 1 best organization and 4 being selected as the best organization. Excellent institutions were selected.

Among the four excellent institutions, Guro-gu was selected as an excellent institution in the field of patient management, and achieved great results two years after receiving the encouragement award in the 2022 tuberculosis patient management project evaluation.

The district has been promoting tuberculosis control projects through various methods, such as on-site tuberculosis screening, management of those diagnosed with tuberculosis, tuberculosis education, and community connection and cooperation.

First, through on-site tuberculosis screening, we provided tuberculosis screening to the housing vulnerable, medically vulnerable, and homeless people living in gosiwons, rental apartments, and foreigner residential shelters, as well as services linked to medical and welfare institutions. A total of 1,780 people were screened this year.

The district has been working hard to manage those with tuberculosis symptoms by providing follow-up screening guidance and testing for those with positive tuberculosis screening results. This year, the management rate of patients with confirmed symptoms reached 91%, an 18% increase compared to last year.

In addition, tuberculosis education was conducted 15 times for facilities used by foreigners (1 time), facilities for the homeless (1 time), schools (6 times), and social welfare facilities (7 times), and screening was conducted through linkage and cooperation with related organizations. Efforts have been made in various ways to prevent tuberculosis, including discovering locations.

In particular, Guro-gu encourages treatment through home visits for non-compliant tuberculosis patients who have refused or stopped treatment even though they developed tuberculosis, and provides meal support services linked to this, SOS care hospital companion service, dementia relief center linkage, and tuberculosis monitoring. It also received high scores in the patient management field.

A Guro-gu official said, “For tuberculosis, prevention, early detection, and consistent treatment are more important than anything else, so we hope residents will pay attention to tuberculosis.” He added, “We will continue to put the health of local residents first and do our best to prevent and manage tuberculosis.” He said.
