President Gustavo Petro spoke about the political disqualification imposed on Rodolfo Hernández, former presidential candidate and former mayor of Bucaramanga, by the Attorney General’s Office.
The sanction of 10 years and five months prohibits Hernández from holding public officewhich has generated controversy in the Colombian political sphere.
In a post on his social networks, The president stated that the control entity “cannot take away political rights” and added that the Attorney General’s Office is “violating the American Convention on Human Rights” with this measure.
The Attorney General’s Office issued a first instance ruling in which it sanctioned Rodolfo Hernández Suárez with dismissal and general disqualification for 10 years, 5 months and 28 days.for influencing in favor of the electoral campaign of the candidate for mayor of Bucaramanga, Juan Carlos Cárdenas.

The Public Ministry confirmed that Hernández He participated in political party activities by making speeches as president of Bucaramanga.in the program “Talk to the Mayor”, broadcast on the social networks Instagram, YouTube and Facebook in 2019. In these speeches, he repeatedly invited people to vote for the “Citizens Mayor«, distinctive slogan of Juan Carlos Cárdenas’s campaign.
