Bulgaria and China will work to upgrade cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations in the field of transport and communications. This was confirmed at a meeting today by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Gvozdeikov, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China, Dai Qinli.

“Our main priority is the modernization of the railway transport in the country, and in this direction a serious financial resource has been planned for the railway transport”, Minister Gvozdeikov said during the conversation. He emphasized that Bulgaria can learn from the pace at which China is developing in the sphere of high-speed railway infrastructure and new technologies.Minister Gvozdeikov emphasized the role of Bulgaria as a strategic point in the Black Sea and the importance of the development of maritime transport in this context.

Dai Qingli stated that during her mandate in Bulgaria, she will work on the same priorities in the field of transport. Strengthening cooperation between the two countries in terms of freight rail transport and multimodal transport is of utmost importance to the connectivity between Europe and Asia, Ambassador Dai Qinli also pointed out. She informed that at the end of July 2024, a Bulgarian airline received permission from the Chinese authorities to operate 4 weekly cargo flights from China to Sofia. The possibility of opening a direct passenger flight between the two countries was also discussed.
