Gwyneth Paltrow arrived today (Tuesday) at the court in Utah, for a civil trial in a lawsuit over a skiing accident that happened in 2016. The actress and health guru entered the court with a bodyguard to hear the lawsuit of Dr. Terry Sanderson, who accuses her that 7 years ago she collided with him, after skiing recklessly on the ski slope and left him with a traumatic brain injury.

Paltrow countersued Sanderson and claims he was the one who bumped into her at the Deer Valley resort in the first place. She also denied his main claim that she fled after the crash.

Opening statements from both sides were presented to the jury, most of whom raised their hands during the selection process when the judge asked them if they knew who Paltrow was.

While Sanderson claims the incident left him injured with a concussion, broken ribs and permanent brain damage, Paltrow’s lawyers told an almost completely opposite story. Paltrow claims that Sanderson was on top of her on the slope when he body-bumped her.

Her lawyers also say Sanderson admitted he was partially blind before the accident. Sanderson originally sought $3.1 million in damages, but a judge ruled that he was not entitled to punitive damages, cutting the amount he could claim by more than 90% to $300,000.

In her counterclaim, Paltrow is only asking for nominal damages of $1 and reimbursement of court costs.
