Public officials who restored the walls of Gyeongbokgung Palace, which had been damaged by spray graffiti, received government commendations. Manager Jeong, who received a commendation from the Prime Minister, is a conservation science expert who has been in public office since 2002. In December 2023, when the walls of Gyeongbokgung Palace were damaged by spray graffiti, he led the restoration work. He was recognized for forming a response team with internal and external conservation experts and coordinating the quick recovery process. After the restoration, Manager Jeong appeared on the tvN program ‘You Quiz on the Block’ and tried to raise awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
This curator, who received a presidential commendation, was in charge of preserving the relics of those killed in the Korean War from 2020 to 2024. There are over 1,300 artifacts preserved by this curator. During the processing, the identities of eight fallen soldiers were also confirmed. The National Heritage Administration said, “We were recognized for our contribution in providing an opportunity for the remains of fallen soldiers to be reexamined as materials with national heritage value, rather than as simple keepsakes or clues.”
