In the era of “likes” and after the “necessary” external validation, everything seems to indicate that life does not matter as long as you risk it all for a like.

In light of this, a scientific analysis by the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, states that since 2008, the search for extreme selfies has claimed the lives of more than 500 people.

While this may not be a surprising figure for some, it is worth noting that this data indicates that one in three people died while traveling and trying to take the most spectacular self-portrait.

Just like Natalie, who died on August 21 after suffering a fall while trying to take a photo near Neuschwanstein Palace in Bavaria (Germany).

The 23-year-old athlete visited the castle known as Sleeping Beauty on August 15, due to its similarity to the one that appears in the classic Disney film.

However, after scouting the spot to get the “perfect” photo, Stichova fell from a height of approximately 80 metres.

Serious injuries led to her being rushed to a nearby hospital by helicopter, where she was diagnosed with brain damage and then went into a vegetative state. A week later, and following a decision by her family, the gymnast was allowed to be taken off life support on 21 August, and she died at the age of 23.

Following the unfortunate death, the GymSP sports club expressed its sorrow through a statement on Instagram, highlighting Natalie’s human and professional qualities, always remembering her with a smile.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that following a tragic accident, our wonderful friend, gymnast, manager and coach Natalie Stichova has left us forever. She lost her fight for life on August 21st at 5:30am.
