Gypsy Rose Blanchard to be Released from Prison After Serving 10-Year Sentence

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, will be released from prison on December 28th after serving more than seven years of her 10-year sentence. The case attracted national attention, as experts believe Gypsy may have been a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a condition in which a caregiver exaggerates or causes medical problems in those they care for.

Dee Dee and Gypsy moved to Missouri after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005. Dee Dee claimed that Gypsy had multiple medical conditions, leading to an outpouring of support from the community, including charity trips and donations. However, doubts were cast on Dee Dee’s claims by some doctors, with one accusing her of suffering from Munchausen by proxy.

Gypsy’s situation became known to the public once she and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, were implicated in her mother’s murder. Godejohn, who is serving life in prison for his role in the murder, claimed he was motivated by a desire to save Gypsy from abuse. Gypsy, on the other hand, said she felt freer in prison than she did living with her mother, as she was allowed to live more like a normal woman.

Despite her early release, Gypsy has already set plans for her future, including attending a Kansas City Chiefs game with her husband and releasing an ebook titled “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom” in January 2024. Her case has been the subject of documentaries and a limited series drama on Hulu. Gypsy’s release raises questions about her future and how she will transition back into the outside world after serving her sentence.
