Garland, Texas, is poised to welcome two new H-E-B stores, marking a significant expansion for the popular regional grocer into the Dallas suburb. The projects signal continued growth for H-E-B in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where the San Antonio-based chain has been steadily increasing its presence since 2001 with its Central Market brand.
The planned Joe V’s Smart Shop will revitalize a currently vacant shopping center on the northeast corner of Centerville Road and LBJ Freeway, according to a city news release. This will be the fourth Joe V’s Smart Shop location in North Texas, offering shoppers a focus on fresh, high-quality products at the lowest possible prices. The first Joe V’s in the Dallas-Fort Worth area opened in Dallas in June 2024, followed by locations in far east Dallas in March 2025 and Irving in November 2025.
Revitalizing South Garland
The Joe V’s Smart Shop, covering approximately seven acres, is expected to spark growth in the surrounding shopping center, which has remained vacant for over two decades. The store will offer a range of products including fresh produce, organic selections, in-store cut meats and made-in-house items like tortillas, breads, and sushi. Construction is anticipated to begin in the coming months, according to the release.
H-E-B Expansion Near Firewheel Town Center
Alongside the Joe V’s Smart Shop, H-E-B intends to develop a full-scale H-E-B store on a 21-acre site between Crist Road and Firewheel Parkway, near the bustling Firewheel Town Center. This location is expected to attract more visitors to the area and serve as a major gateway to Garland. Though, the purchase of the land is still being finalized.
A Growing Footprint in North Texas
These new stores add to H-E-B’s growing network in North Texas. The company has already opened locations in Forney, Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Melissa, Prosper, and Rockwall, as well as two stores in Tarrant County: Fort Worth/Alliance and Mansfield. Additional stores are planned or under construction in Irving, Denton, Dallas, Carrollton, and the Mid-Cities.
H-E-B’s expansion isn’t limited to its flagship stores. The company also operates Central Market, a higher-end grocery chain, with six locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area: Dallas, Plano, Southlake, and Fort Worth.
