First injury list appearance since entering the US
Kim Ha-seong (San Diego Padres) was eventually placed on the injured list (IL).
San Diego placed Ha-seong Kim on the 10-day IL on the 21st (Korean time) due to inflammation in his right shoulder. It is retroactive to the 20th.
This is the first time that Ha-seong Kim, who debuted in the Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2021, is going to the IL.
Kim Ha-seong got on base in the third inning of the game against the Colorado Rockies on the 19th, but felt pain in his right shoulder while returning to first base after being picked off by the opposing team. He immediately sent a signal to the bench, grabbed his right shoulder with his left hand, and left the field.
After undergoing an MRI examination, San Diego manager Mike Shildt expressed a cautious stance, saying, “It’s generally positive, but there’s no set timetable.”

According to MLB.com, manager Shildt said of Kim Ha-seong, “I thought he could return within 10 days, but there is no need to rush.”
This means that it is better to recover and come back considering the remaining season. Kim Ha-seong also thinks the same.
“We’re in the postseason and wild card race, and considering that we have a goal as a team to get to the World Series, I think this is a better decision,” Kim Ha-seong said. “The 10-day IL is meaningful to me to get back to 100 percent condition.”
Kim Ha-seong has played in 121 games this season, posting a batting average of 0.233, 11 home runs, 47 RBIs, 60 runs, and 22 stolen bases. After the season ends, he will be eligible for free agency and can enter the market.
Meanwhile, Tyler Wade will start at shortstop for the second consecutive day following Kim Ha-seong’s injury.
MLB.com reported that “Manager Shildt was intentionally vague when asked about the shortstop option.”
“Wade is playing today. Matthew Batten is also called up. There are other options,” said coach Shildt. “You can check the lineup every day.”
