The Norwegian striker suffers from a stress fracture in one foot. A hard blow for Pep Guardiola whose team is going through a bad patch.
Striker Erling Haaland, victim of a stress fracture in one foot, is out of Manchester City’s match on Sunday at Luton (3 p.m.), his club announced.
“It is a stress fracture in the foot, felt after the last match (against Aston Villa on Wednesday, editor’s note). He can’t play,” City coach Pep Guardiola said just before kick-off in the match against Luton.
“I don’t know how long the injury lasted. We’ll see what happens week after week, day after day (…) Erling has been very important since he arrived, that’s for sure. But over the course of the season, we see these kinds of things. Injuries, suspensions, problems, we have to adapt,” added the Spanish technician.
The 23-year-old Norwegian center forward misses his first league match this season, after starting the previous fifteen matches.
He leads the ranking of top scorers with fourteen goals before the 16th day.
Manchester City remains in four games without a win (three draws and one defeat) before traveling to Luton, one of the promoted teams. In the absence of Haaland, the keys to the attack have been entrusted to Julian Alvarez, according to the team composition provided by the English league.
