Organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune, this two-day hackathon brought together 17 competitive teams, each made up of 3 to 6 participants from different universities and professional training institutes from the three southern regions.
After the jury’s deliberations, the first place in this competition was won by the “MED-REM” team, composed of students from the Guelmim Higher School of Technology, the City of Trades and Skills of Laayoune and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune, for its “Ilaji.ma” project which consists of setting up a platform dedicated to determining health insurance reimbursement rates.
The second prize was awarded to the team “Your health, our responsibility”, for its project which consists of setting up a website which brings health services closer to citizens, in particular the contact details of pharmacies, private ambulances and doctors and nurses responsible for home care.
Third place went to the “Encrypted” team, whose project aims to create a platform reserved for doctors and pharmacists wishing to provide services remotely.
In a statement to MAP, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune, Fatima Zahra Hafdi Alaoui, stressed that this challenge aims to offer the opportunity to students from the southern provinces to present innovative projects in the field of connected health and artificial intelligence.
In this regard, Ms. Alaoui praised the quality of the projects presented and their added value in the field of e-health, stating that this competition allowed students from different establishments under Ibn Zohr University and professional training institutes to participate together to develop their skills and innovation capacities.
Furthermore, she noted that digital technologies will undoubtedly contribute to improving the coverage and quality of health practices and services.
For her part, El Barnoussi Nadia, member of the jury in charge of the project evaluation committee for this Hackathon, noted that this challenge is likely to develop ideas for innovative projects, based on technology and artificial intelligence in the medical field, with a view to facilitating and improving access to care.
After two days of intensive workshops, supervised by qualified experts recognized for their expertise in health, technology and project management, the 17 participating teams had the opportunity to present their projects to a jury, which evaluated the proposals based on the criteria of feasibility, the relevance of the project to the needs of the health sector and the technological approach adopted, as well as the potential impact on health care.
The “E-Santé du Sud” Hackathon, which was marked by the participation of around 80 students, offered students from the southern provinces the opportunity to highlight their creative abilities in the field of digital health and to meet health professionals.
