Hacker Attack on IT Supplier Tietoevry: Vellinge Municipality Loses Patient Records – No Risk to Life and Health

by time news

– The extent of this has not been known. A large part of the patient records have disappeared within health care and social services. It is very serious. A lot of data was encrypted during the attack and we see it as lost data, says Gustaf Lorentz, communications manager Vellinge municipality.

It was at the end of January that a hacker attack against the IT supplier Tietoevry occurred. Several regions, municipalities and companies were affected. Large parts of the digital system at Vellinge municipality, among others, were knocked out.

No risk to life and health

Despite the fact that patient records are missing within the municipality’s operations, all patients must, according to the municipality, receive care according to plan. There are also no indications that personal data has been leaked.

– We see no risk to life and health. However, it is an extensive administrative puzzle. Through a puzzle with other providers and actors in care, we have access to information. However, history is gone. Many journals that are closed are gone. It is unfortunate, says Gustaf Lorentz.

How are patients affected by this?

– A lot of systems are still intact, there are complementary systems. This means that we will not give the wrong medication. It will work and there is no danger that way. But it’s very much puzzling.

In Vellinge, gigantic work is now underway to rebuild the entire record system.

– Our staff build up the systems manually from scratch and we have reported this to the Inspectorate for Care and Care.
