Hackers stole the source code of FIFA and Battlefield games

Electronic Arts (EA), one of the world’s largest video game publishers, reported that hackers hacked into its computer systems and stole the source code used in the company’s games, CNN reports. The hackers themselves claim to have gained access to 780 GB of data, including the source code for the Frostbite game engine, which is used in the FIFA and Battlefield series of games.

According to the attackers, they also received the FIFA 21 software development tools and server code to match partners in the FIFA 22 game.

“We are investigating a recent breach incident in our system that resulted in the theft of a limited amount of software code and related tools,” a company spokesman said. EA added that hacking does not pose a danger to the personal data of users.

In February 2021, hackers hacked into CD Projekt’s servers and stole all material related to the games Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 (in two versions – including for the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles) and Gwent. Subsequently, the files were put up for auction, and an unknown person bought them. On Tuesday, June 8th, hackers from the Babuk group released the source code of the video game Cyberpunk 2077 online.
