Rain Causes Chaos in Mexico City
The relentless rains that have plagued Mexico City continued this Wednesday, leading to hail and affecting several districts. In response, the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) issued a yellow alert in 13 municipalities.
Social networks were flooded with reports of hailfall in the southern and central areas of the capital, with photographs showing a light white covering on streets, avenues, and cars in Coyoacán, Benito Juárez, and Miguel Hidalgo.
Emergency teams from various agencies collaborated under the “Operation Rain 2024” initiative to mitigate the effects of the storm. The Mexico City Water System (Sacmex) deployed a fleet of response teams and equipment to address the situation.
SGIRPC attributed the flooding, waterlogging, and fallen trees to softened soil and strong winds. Firefighters responded to emergencies across the city, while police assisted with traffic flow in affected areas.
