The Business Alliance for the Lowering of VAT on Personal Image has assured this Monday that both hairdressers, barbershops and beauty centers will have to increase the prices of their services by 10% to face inflation and insists on also demanding the reduction to 10% of that tax to relieve the sector, which since 2012 has paid 21%.
According to the spokesperson for the alliance, José Luis Azañón, the salary of workers in the sector must increase between 15 and 20% to adapt to the interprofessional minimum wage for the next negotiation of the collective agreement. Azañón has also defended that hairdressing in Spain is cheap and that a general increase in prices must be carried out, given that business costs have increased by 27.2% in recent months due to inflation.
However, the sector has only increased prices by 3.63% in 2022, according to the latest data from the study carried out among more than 1,600 members of this organization, while Azañón explains that the image sector should have increased prices by 18%.
In this way, beauty, hairdressing and barber salons bear the weight of inflation due to the increase in the price of products and the cost of rent, whose average monthly expense is around 758 euros, 7.4% more than the previous year.
In this sense, the spokesperson for the alliance added that without taking into account the self-employed or owners, the number of workers is only 1.5 per location, taking into account that in the years prior to the coronavirus pandemic there were 2 3 employees in each establishment.
Looking at the end of the year, the turnover of companies in the sector will fall by 2.44%, after the 10.07% decrease registered in 2022, so it is very important to have taxation according to the sector to address the situation ” dramatic” that the sector is experiencing, concludes the spokesperson.
