Haiti earthquake, death toll rises to 304 today

by time news

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti yesterday caused at least 304 deaths. Most of the victims were recorded in the southern and western areas. There would be hundreds more missing and 1,800 injured. This was announced by the Civil Protection of Haiti. The number of victims is expected to grow further.

Saturday’s earthquake was stronger than the devastating 2010 earthquake that killed more than 220,000 people but its epicenter was further away from the capital. Serious damage and fatalities were recorded tens of miles from the epicenter, 7.2 miles northeast of Saint-Louis du Sud, where the earthquake struck at 8.29am on Saturday.
