Hajj: Exchange of new Kiswah took place; The Kaaba will be dressed on the first of Muharram

Makkah | In the holy month of Muharram, the exchange of new Kiswa to dress the Holy Kaaba took place. Makkah Governor and Advisor to King Salman Prince Khalid Al Faisal, Senior Custodian of the Kaaba Dr. New Kiswa was handed over to Salih bin Zain. The handover ceremony was attended by Makkah Deputy Governor Prince Badr bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz. Dr. Abdurrahman Al-Sudais, Head of Iruharam Office and Haram Imam, and senior dignitaries. On Muharram 1, the Kiswa will dress the Kaaba.

The construction of the Kiswa was completed in one year by more than two hundred weavers using special natural yarn produced at the King Abdul Aziz Complex in Umm al-Jud, Makkah, which was established for the construction of the Holy Kaaba Kiswa. The height of Kiswa is 14 meters. In its upper part, a belt 95 cm wide and 47 m long is surrounded by 16 smaller sections with Islamic Vastu sculptures. Kiswa has five main parts. Four of these will cover the sides of the Holy Kaaba and the fifth will hang over the main entrance. Normally every year during the Hajj, the ceremony of donning the Kiswa was held on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, when the pilgrims gather at Arafah.
