The halal market generates between US$5 billion and US$6 billion per year in Brazil, mainly with the export of animal protein, said ambassador Osmar Chohfi, president of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, during the Global Halal Brazil Business Forum, held yesterday in São Paulo. Furthermore, around 30% of Brazil’s halal-certified animal protein exports are destined for Muslim countries.

In the world, Muslims number close to 2 billion – a quarter of the planet’s population – and generate, in the food segment alone, US$ 1.2 trillion per year in the world, added Chohfi, in a note released today by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber . “By 2050, it is believed that they will make up 30% of the Earth’s inhabitants, and will demand much more food, medicines, cosmetics, among many other products”, he added.

In 2022, Brazil exported US$23.41 billion in food and beverages to the 57 Muslim-majority countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. These shipments made the country the largest supplier of foodstuffs to the Muslim world and represented a 41% increase in performance compared to the previous year.
