As Day.Az reports, many years later, the national badminton championship was held in the city of Khankendi. The competitions were organized jointly by the special representative office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi, Agdera and Khojaly regions, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Badminton Federation of Azerbaijan. The final stage of the championship was held at secondary school No. 4 named after Nizami Ganjavi in ​​Khankendi.

Employees of the special mission of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gaibov, media representatives and other officials took part in the competition, which took place in the gym of the educational institution. Minister Gaibov and the official representative of the special mission, having played a game of badminton, declared the championship open.

Farid Gaibov noted that today a historical event is taking place in Azerbaijani sports. He emphasized that sports are returning to lands liberated from occupation, and that sports competitions are regularly held in these regions. Khankendi has already hosted several sporting events and, according to the minister, will become an important sports center.

Also present at the final matches was Mahmud Mamedov, a member of the Azerbaijani badminton family who took prizes in three categories at a tournament held in Khankendi in 1974.

The winners and prize-winners of the championship were awarded by employees of the special mission of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gaibov and President of the Badminton Federation of Azerbaijan Taleh Ziyadov.

It should be noted that the Azerbaijan Badminton Championship, held in October 1974 in Khankendi, was organized among clubs. 24 men and 20 women took part in it. The teams “Neftchi”, “Makhsul”, “Zenith”, “Lokomotiv” and “Spartak” competed among the clubs for the title of winner.
