The Pfeifer family from Feldhausen and numerous friends and helpers prepared the Halloween tour for six weeks. This could then be visited and experienced free of charge on weekends over a period of three weeks. A total of 3,600 visitors came, reports family father Mark Pfeifer.

That’s far more than last year. The story of the Halloween House began four years ago. “We’ll be celebrating our 5th birthday next year,” says Mark Pfeifer happily. Starting next Halloween, they only want to carry out the campaign every two years.

The effort was worth it

“Even though the Halloween House brings us a lot of joy, it’s just exhausting on this scale,” the family and helpers agree. And not just physically, but also emotionally. Because the story has a serious background. Son Lian suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare, life-limiting disease.

With the Halloween House, the family not only wants to bring joy to themselves, but also to many other people and affected children. And this commitment has paid off again. The campaign collected more than 7,000 euros in donations and handed it over to the Gladbeck outpatient children’s hospice on Sunday afternoon.

“This commitment is truly extraordinary,” says the hospice team, moved to tears. At the same time, the children’s hospice would like to use the opportunity to draw attention to its work. They already received part of the donations last year. After the Pfeifer family contacted the service, a close relationship developed.

Volunteering is an important pillar

After all, the team of Kira Benz, Alexandra Rose and Nicole Toffel, who accepted the donation on Sunday, is there for families and their children with life-limiting illnesses. “In order to be able to offer our support so comprehensively, we rely on the help of volunteers,” explains coordinator Alexandra Rose.

They regularly visit the families in their home environment, listen, play with the children and are conversation partners for the parents, siblings and children. The outpatient children’s and youth hospice service operates within a 50 kilometer radius of Gladbeck. In order to volunteer there, you need to complete a preparatory course.

“We would like to start the next course in the spring of next year. It takes place on Monday evenings over a period of five months,” says Kira Benz.
