Doctor and broadcaster Ham Ik-byeong (63) expressed his thoughts on death.
On the 3rd, on the YouTube channel ‘Selko TV’, ‘I didn’t know until my mother-in-law passed away. So I think you went away happy. A video titled ‘How to die better than how to live well, according to two doctors?’ was uploaded.
In the video, Ham Ik-byeong said, “I am a person who has been thinking about death for 20 years.”
“In the old days, when I talked about things like this, my mom would say, ‘Young people think about all sorts of things.’ But I think death is always nearby.”
Ham Ik-byeong said, “I don’t have birthday parties. Tell your family, ‘When you wake up in the morning, it’s your birthday. “If you don’t open your eyes, it’s a memorial day,” he said.
“If I have fun and work hard every day, I think that death is not the end of my life, but rather the end of the process of living well,” he said.
Ham Ik-byeong also mentioned his deceased mother-in-law.
“My mother-in-law passed away at the age of 93, but she was actually diagnosed with (stomach cancer) six months ago. But during the family meeting, I said, ‘Let’s not talk about it. ‘You’ve lived an above-average life expectancy and are doing your daily activities in good health. Are you going to have surgery?’ “I said this,” he said.
“My mother-in-law lived for another six months, but she passed away after being hospitalized for just two days. He said he thought it was a bit strange, but he didn’t tell me. They said I would be fine once I was hospitalized. Instead, the whole family knew,” he said.
