According to German media and AFP, a weapons cache has been discovered in Bulgaria that is linked to four suspects detained in Germany and the Netherlands last December and allegedly linked to Hamas.

Three of the suspects were arrested in Germany on December 14 on charges of planning terrorist attacks against Jewish organizations in Europe. A fourth suspect was detained in the Netherlands.

According to German prosecutors, the four suspects were collecting weapons with the aim of “keeping them ready in connection with possible terrorist attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe.”

Der Spiegel magazine reported on Wednesday that one of the suspects had photographs of small arms and ammunition on his mobile phone, leading investigators to a weapons cache hidden under a pine tree in southern Bulgaria. German sources confirmed the existence of such a cache. However, Bulgarian authorities refused to confirm this report.

In December, German prosecutors claimed that four of the suspects – one from Egypt, two from Lebanon and one from the Netherlands – were “long-time Hamas members.”

Prosecutors said one of the suspects, named Abdelhamid Al A., was tasked with leading an organization to search for “an arms cache in Europe that he had secretly set up there previously.” The weapons were to be delivered to Berlin and ready for use in connection with possible terrorist attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe. Members of the group traveled from Berlin on numerous occasions to search for weapons.

Earlier, Kursor reported that Hamas said whether there was progress in negotiations with Israel.
