Lebanon-based Hamas Deputy Chief, Saleh al-Arouri, has stated that the real battles have not yet commenced amid the ongoing conflict with Israel. In a recent phone interview with al-Manar, the TV channel of Hezbollah, al-Arouri revealed that Hamas leaders are in constant contact with the Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah. Furthermore, he disclosed that he held a meeting with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on October 7, the same day Hamas launched its onslaught on Israel.

Although not all of their meetings are made public, al-Arouri’s recent meeting with Nasrallah and Islamic Jihad chief Ziad al-Nakhaleh was widely publicized. He emphasized that Hamas and Hezbollah share the same struggle, stating, “Our battle is also Hezbollah’s battle.” Al-Arouri also expressed confidence in Hamas’ combat readiness, claiming that despite Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, Hamas terrorists remain in good condition.

Addressing the issue of hostages held by Hamas, al-Arouri described the foreigners as “guests,” indicating that they may not be treated as enemies. However, he made it clear that Israeli prisoners would be exchanged for Hamas detainees being held in Israel. It is estimated that out of the approximately 220 hostages, a significant number possess foreign citizenship.

In addition, al-Arouri called upon the people of the West Bank to intensify their resistance in any way possible. His statement suggests a call for increased violence in the region.

With tensions escalating between Israel, Hamas, and various Palestinian militant groups, the situation in the area remains precarious. The possibility of an Israeli ground incursion into Gaza looms, and Hamas seems determined to confront any such invasion. As both sides prepare for the decisive battles, the international community awaits further developments and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
