Y. Al-Sinwar’s new position in the Iran-backed Hamas group was announced on the Telegram platform on Tuesday.

Shortly after Yehya al-Sinwar was appointed as the new head of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Israel announced its intention to “eliminate him quickly”.

Y al Sinwar’s appointment as successor to the slain Ismail Haniyeh is “another compelling reason to quickly eliminate him and wipe this disgusting organization off the face of the earth,” Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Network X on Tuesday.

Y. al-Sinwar was until now the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. It is considered one on October 7. mastermind of an attack on Israel that killed 1,198 people and took 251 hostages.

Already last November, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant vowed: “We will find Y. al-Sinwar and eliminate him.” From October 7 H. al-Sinwar has not appeared in public. He is believed to be hiding in a tunnel system under the Gaza Strip.

He is accused of being one of the organizers of the October 7. attacks in southern Israel that killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took around 250 hostages.

However, it seems that Y. al-Sinwar has so far managed to elude the Israeli forces hunting him during the almost 10-month-long Israeli ground and air operation in Gaza.

Haniyeh, who lived and worked in Qatar, was killed in a targeted attack less than a week ago while visiting Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president.

Iran and its allies have vowed brutal revenge against Israel for his death, fueling fears of a wider war in the region.
