The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas said it had decided to delay the handover of hostages until Israel “respects” the agreement signed, according to the latest updates from AFP. Israeli authorities confirmed to AFP that the kidnapped people had not yet been handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The military wing of Hamas stated that it will postpone the release of the 13 Israeli hostages scheduled for release this Saturday (25) until Israel “complies with the terms of the agreement related to the entry of aid trucks into the north of the Gaza Strip and due to failure to comply with agreed standards for the release of prisoners”.

The Ezzedine al Qassam brigades particularly call for “the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into the north of the Gaza Strip” and respect for the “selection criteria” for the release of Palestinian prisoners, they said in a statement.

In its defense, Israel said it allowed 200 trucks a day into the Strip, as required by the agreement, and Israel’s COGAT military liaison with the Palestinians previously announced that 50 of those trucks arrived in northern Gaza.

First day of the agreement

This Friday (24), the first day of the agreement between Israel and Hamas, Israel released 39 Palestinians who were being held in Israeli prisons in exchange for the release of 13 Israeli hostages — all women, children and elderly people. The victims spent 49 days in the custody of the terrorist group, which infiltrated southern Israel and launched a surprise attack on October 7. On that occasion, the terrorists carried out massacres and kidnapped 242 hostages, including Israelis and foreigners.

In addition to the 13 Israelis, ten Thais and one Filipino who were held hostage by Hamas were released by the terrorist group. The Israeli Army confirmed that the group arrived in Israeli territory at around 7pm (2pm Brasília time) this Friday.

The released hostages crossed the Rafah crossing, on the border with Egypt, shortly before 6pm (1pm in Brasília), in vehicles from the Red Cross, the humanitarian organization responsible for their transport to the Israeli authorities. They underwent an initial ophthalmological assessment, as they had been in dark places for a long time (tunnels and underground shelters). They were then taken to the Hatzerim air base, in southern Israel.
