DThree years after the last semi-final participation, Hamburger SV is again among the top four teams in the DFB Cup. The North Germans won against Karlsruher SC 3-2 (2-2, 2-2, 0-1) on penalties on Wednesday evening and turned a temporary 0-2 deficit.

In front of 25,000 spectators, Philip Heise (40th minute) scored the goals for KSC with a free kick and Philipp Hofmann (50th minute). Immediately after the goal, the game picked up even more intensity after a three substitutions by Hamburg. Despite being outnumbered, KSC kept going on the offensive and fought passionately.

KSC coach Christian Eichner described the game as “a chance of a lifetime” for his players. So did his team. The two second division teams faced each other in the DFB Cup for the sixth time – HSV prevailed for the second time.
