These two generations stand, and that is why it is important to analyze them. Jean-Marie Tjibaou put forward the idea of Kanaky’s open government, built gradually, through the renewal of “exogenous” French models – industry, school, business, management, finance. He wants to rehabilitate the traditional Kanak kingdoms-chiefs, who have been emptied of their substance by colonial history, by taking advantage of what is around them. Tjibaou said: “We will not leave France through the front door to come back and beg from the window. » Its design takes into account the globalization, the smallness of the island and the need to deal with administrative power. It is not a blind prediction to the West’s crazy machine, or a fundamental return to a society that no longer exists.

Jubelly Wea develops an initiative which can be explained through the history of colonial power relations and the resentment that results from them. He came to his position because of frustration and personal anger, after he had parted ways with his group and his Church. His political opinion leaves no room for any negotiation, except the demand for the absolute independence and sovereignty of Kanaky without the French. By launching the famous Kanak schools, he wanted to break with French education, buteia beerliterally meaning “bottle of wine”, which surprised the Kanak people. He wanted to cut all ties with the Western and colonial model.
