The Brazilian Hamilton de Holanda and the South African Nduduzo Makhathini stage a unique show at the Bimhuis; fusion of ancestral African rhythms from South Africa and Brazil. “Jazz master Wynton Marsalis introduced the two virtuosos to each other. Routes of Discovery was created during Covid, a suite with clear Brazilian and African roots, influenced by classical music, jazz and hip-hop.”

Hamilton de Holanda is one of the most influential players of bandolim, the mandolin that gives character to Brazilian music and with his piano, Nduduzo Makhathini creates the link between jazz, gospel and his Zulu background. Outside of South Africa he is making a name for himself with his album Modes of Communication on the legendary jazz label Blue Note.
