Hamilton Launches Limited Edition Khaki Field Watch Inspired by Christopher Nolan Film

From Cinematic Prop to Limited Edition Merchandising

Hamilton has launched the Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey Limited Edition, a 2,112-piece watch collection inspired by Christopher Nolan’s latest film. Priced at approximately $1,500, the timepiece features bronze-age design elements and a caseback engraved with Nolan’s signature, marking a departure from the brand’s previous on-screen prop collaborations.

From Cinematic Prop to Limited Edition Merchandising

For more than a decade, the partnership between director Christopher Nolan and Swiss watchmaker Hamilton has been defined by functional integration. In 2014’s Interstellar, the brand developed a custom piece that enabled the protagonist to transmit data via Morse code; the watch later saw a successful commercial release known as The Murph. Similarly, for the 2020 spy thriller Tenet, Hamilton engineered a custom prop watch featuring a digital countdown display to reflect the film’s temporal mechanics.

The new Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey Limited Edition, which hits shelves this Friday, represents a shift in this strategy. Because the film The Odyssey is set thousands of years before the invention of mechanical timekeeping, the watch does not appear on screen. While previous releases were direct extensions of the cinematic experience, this model is positioned as a standalone tribute to the film’s aesthetic.

Design Elements and Bronze Age Craftsmanship

The timepiece is built on the foundation of Hamilton’s Khaki Field Automatic, utilizing a 42mm bronze case to evoke the weaponry and armor of the Bronze Age. The dial features a black brushed finish with a bronze pattern reminiscent of the hero’s helmet texture, while the hands are shaped like swords and spears. A specific rivet symbol from the hero’s scabbard is placed at the 12 o’clock position.

The watch is accompanied by a replica of the goddess Athena’s pin—a talisman from the film—and arrives in specialized black-and-bronze packaging. The production run is strictly limited to 2,112 pieces.

The Director’s Role in Product Development

Hamilton CEO Francesca Ginocchio confirmed that the director initiated the project.

“Together we developed the idea of creating a special piece linked to the story, with his signature. Time is always very important in Christopher Nolan’s storytelling.”

Nolan, whose recurring fascination with time—from the reverse chronology of Memento (2000) to the time-inversion of Tenet (2020)—has previously earned him the title of the grand watchmaker of cinema from film critic Tom Shone. In promotional material, Nolan described the portrayal of time, the importance of time to the characters in the story, as enormously important.

Market Reception and Availability

The watch is available through Hamilton for approximately $1,500. The launch arrives alongside the film’s wide release in theaters this Friday. While the brand has historically successfully leveraged its deep ties to Hollywood prop masters and production designers—with Hamilton watches appearing in over 500 films—the Odyssey release tests whether audiences will embrace thematic merchandise in the absence of a direct on-screen counterpart.

As the film begins its theatrical run, the watch serves as the latest marker of Hamilton’s efforts to solidify filmmaking as a core component of its brand identity. Whether this model achieves the same long-term collector status as the 2014 Interstellar Murph remains to be seen as the limited run reaches the consumer market.
