“Hamlet“, William Shakespeare‘s masterpiece, is presented by the 5th Epoch this summer, with the show directed by Themis Moumoulidis also having Yannena in its stations, on Wednesday 17 July, at 9.30 pm in the outdoor theater of EHM .
With Hamlet, Shakespeare presents to the world theater a monumental play which, for centuries now, has created its own mythology. A dive into the essence of man and at the same time a requiem to his dark side. Through Hamlet, Shakespeare describes his time, which is also our time. A timeless and deeply political text.
Themis Moumoulidis attempts a modern stage reading of the play, with a group of important actors, led by Anastasis Roilos in the role of Hamlet.
Using the magnificent poetic translation of Giorgos Heimonas as a vehicle, the performance follows the “collapse” of a world, incapable of obeying rules and ethics. A dark, ruthless world, where friendship and blood relations mean nothing. A “ready-made” world of expediency and selfishness: this country is called Animalia. Hamlet knows from the start that this world is rotten and must be destroyed: no use of the world is good. Let it sink! Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet-Shakespeare, with the theatrical machine as his only weapon, does not stop revealing and denouncing. Shakespeare commissions Hamlet to “stage” a play within the play, so that spectators and protagonists of the tragedy can, through the magnifying lens of the stage, experience the magnitude of the decadence, which is absolutely impossible to avoid. Because the modeling world is already dead…
The roles are played by Anastasis Roilos, Ioanna Pappa, Michalis Syriopoulos, Thodoris Skyftoulis, Thanasis Dovris, Marouska Panagiotopoulos, Tzeni Kazakou, Aris Ninikas and Dimitris Apostolopoulos.
