Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, said on the 11th, “Even if many medical organizations do not participate, the ruling and opposition party consultative body should be launched before Chuseok.”

After completing an on-site inspection of Busan National University Hospital in Yangsan, Gyeongnam Province, Representative Han met with reporters and answered the question, “Will the ruling and opposition party consultative body be launched before Chuseok?” by saying, “I hope so.”

He said, “We are asking (medical organizations) to participate in various ways, and I know that some are reviewing it positively,” adding, “I hope more medical organizations will participate.”

He continued, “If the number of participants from the ruling and opposition parties is too large, it would be strange, so shouldn’t it be adjusted? However, in the case of medical organizations, we have no intention of limiting the number,” and explained, “Isn’t it difficult to select a single unified representative or do something like that? Since there may be different opinions, I’m asking you to come and start talking.”

He also emphasized, “If the medical community comes in and finds it difficult to reach an acceptable conclusion, why don’t they just withdraw? What’s important now is for the ruling and opposition parties to get together and quickly take steps to resolve this situation.”

Regarding the observation that the ruling and opposition parties’ consultative body could be launched as early as tomorrow, he explained, “Even if many representative people do not participate in this consultative body from the beginning, why don’t some groups that say they will participate start first and participate as much as they want during the discussion process?”

He added, “Isn’t the situation too dire to wait until the medical community gets more involved?”

One representative also reiterated his position that there should be no restrictions on agenda items such as the cancellation of the 2025 medical school increase plan. On the other hand, the government is taking the position that it cannot bring this to the negotiating table.

When asked whether there was a plan to persuade the government, one representative replied, “It is a matter that can be discussed.”

He added, “If we start this way, the ruling and opposition party consultative body, which is difficult to build, will not be able to get off to a good start. We should not limit the preconditions or the agenda.”

Regarding the opposition party’s demand for an apology from the president as a prerequisite for forming a consultative body, he said, “Just come in and talk. What I said yesterday, let’s not restrict the agenda, is in the same context.”

When asked whether he thought the government needed to change its position, he responded, “We need to get together and talk because we have different opinions,” and asked, “Can we give up on solving this problem just because we have different opinions?”
