People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon is expected to finalize the party’s next appointments this week, following the replacement of former policy chief Jeong Cheom-sik from the pro-Yoon faction. It has been reported that he plans to appoint his close associates as high-ranking members of the party, including former Vice President of Organization Kim Jong-hyeok as the designated supreme council member and former Yeouido Research Institute Director Hong Young-rim as the director of the Yeouido Research Institute.

According to a Newsis report on the 4th, the People Power Party is planning to decide on additional personnel at the party’s Supreme Council on the 5th. It has been reported that former Vice President of Organization Kim Jong-hyeok, a pro-Park non-member, has been nominated as a Supreme Council member, and former lawmaker Shin Ji-ho, who served as the head of the general situation room for the party convention camp, has been nominated as Vice President of Strategy and Planning.

It is said that former Director Hong Young-rim, who was appointed during the time of Han Dong-hoon’s emergency response committee, is likely to be reappointed as the Director of the Yeouido Institute. As Representative Han has revealed a plan to operate the Yeouido Institute by dividing its functions into three parts: ▲ understanding public sentiment, ▲ developing people’s livelihood policies, and ▲ supporting youth politics, it is expected that two to three additional vice-chairmen will be appointed.

In addition, the new head of the public relations headquarters is expected to be former emergency response committee member Jang Seo-jeong. The spokesperson group is expected to maintain existing camp personnel, including former spokesperson Jeong Gwang-jae, senior spokesperson Yoon Hee-seok, and former deputy spokesperson Kim Yoon-hyung. Representative Han Ji-ah is also being mentioned as a strong candidate for spokesperson.

Representative Kim Jae-seop, who has a non-mainstream tendency, is among the candidates for the position of Vice President of the Organization Committee. It is reported that they are looking for candidates within the National Assembly, mainly among first-term lawmakers.

Earlier, after the inauguration of Representative Han, the party was embroiled in controversy over the retention and replacement of former Policy Committee Chairman Jeong Jeong-sik, a pro-Yoon faction member. As the controversy continued, former Chairman Jeong announced his intention to resign on the 1st, saying, “I will prevent future divisions,” and Representative Han immediately appointed TK (Daegu and Gyeongbuk) 4-term lawmaker Kim Sang-hoon as the new Policy Committee Chairman.

In the case of the policy vice-chairman, the party leader appoints him after receiving approval from the general assembly of members next week in accordance with the party constitution and party rules. The appointment of Rep. Kim, a veteran with a weak factional tendency, as the secretary general is also interpreted as a personnel decision that took into consideration approval from the general assembly.

Once the personnel selection is complete, Representative Han will have secured five solid allies in addition to the nine-member Supreme Council. It is expected to dispel the controversy over ‘shaking’ that has been raised in some quarters and spur party renewal.

A pro-Yoon faction member emphasized, “We will neither communicate less with the pro-Yoon faction nor blindly believe what Representative Han says,” adding, “We will move in the direction of completely dismantling the frame of whether the party is pro-Yoon or pro-Park.”
