People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon will visit TK (Daegu and Gyeongbuk) including the Gumi National Industrial Complex in Gyeongbuk on the 3rd. This will be his first visit to TK since taking office as party leader.

Representative Han is scheduled to visit the Gumi Industrial Complex at 2 PM on this day and the Saemaul Foundation at 5 PM on the same day to meet with Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo. Afterwards, Representative Han will attend the National Conference of Korean Successor Farmers to be held at the Nakdonggang Sports Park in Gumi.

The TK region is called the ‘heart’ of the conservative camp, as 40% of the ruling party members are concentrated there. Representative Han’s first visit to the TK region since taking office is an action to solidify the traditional People Power Party support base. There is also a meaning to seeking to unite factions within the party by visiting the TK region, where the pro-Yoon faction is relatively larger than the pro-Yoon faction.

Representative Han’s visit to Gumi is the first in about two months since July 13, just before the party convention. At that time, Representative Han said, “President Park Chung-hee was not corrupt, and he only risked his life for the development of the country and won that fight,” and “Gumi is the heart of conservatism, and together with Gumi, we will become the new heart of conservatism.”

Earlier, on July 12, Representative Han attended a policy debate at the Daegu regional journalists’ gathering “Asia Forum 21” and when asked “Shouldn’t we definitely cross the river of impeachment?” he answered, “(The investigation into former President Park Geun-hye’s state affairs interference) was an investigation conducted from the perspective of a prosecutor,” but added, “I feel very sorry for President Park. She went through a lot, and there may be different interpretations of the historical context, but I feel very sorry.”

During the last convention, one representative attempted to meet with Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo and Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo, but the meeting fell through.
