Regarding the reinstatement of former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyung-soo, People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon said on the 13th, “As is known, it seems that many people think that it is ‘difficult to sympathize.’ However, since it has already been decided, I will not comment on it.”

Representative Han made this statement when asked by reporters about his thoughts on the reinstatement of former Governor Kim after having lunch with four-term veterans at a restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul on that day.

When the press corps asked again, “Can this be interpreted as respecting the president’s inherent authority?” Representative Han replied, “You can interpret it as I said.”

President Yoon Seok-yeol approved the ‘Special Pardons, Special Commutations, Special Reinstatement of Rights, and Special Reduction of Prisons’ passed at the Cabinet meeting on this day. The list of special pardons for Liberation Day includes former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim and former Senior Secretary to the President for Civil Affairs Cho Yoon-sun.

Regarding the issue of Kim Hyung-seok, the director of the Independence Hall of Korea, whose appointment the opposition party is demanding for withdrawal, a representative said, “There may be various opinions for and against personnel matters,” but added, “It is difficult to agree with boycotting the ‘Liberation Day Commemoration Ceremony,’ a major national holiday in our country, because of that.”

Another representative explained the remaining personnel plans, including the Yeouido Research Institute director, saying, “A lot of practical personnel appointments are in progress, and we will prepare calmly.” Representative Han did not respond to questions about the proposal of a “third-party special prosecutor law for Marines.”

Representative Han has recently been expanding his skinship with key party figures through ‘relay lunches’. Starting with lunch with former leadership members of the Emergency Response Committee, Hwang Woo-yea, on the 2nd, he had lunch with senior party figures, including Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Joo Ho-young and lawmakers Cho Kyung-tae and Kwon Seong-dong, on the 5th and 6th.

On the 8th, Representative Han had lunch with the new leadership for the first time after completing the appointment of key party officials, including the Secretary General and Policy Committee Chairman. The day before (the 12th), Representative Han also had lunch with four-term veteran lawmakers Kim Do-eup, Kim Sang-hoon, Yoon Young-seok, Lee Jong-bae, and Han Ki-ho.
