People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon announced in his first social network service (SNS) message since taking office that he “promises that the ruling and opposition parties will work together to find ways to minimize the damage” regarding the delayed settlement of TMON and WeMakePrice, affiliates of Singaporean e-commerce company Quten. This is interpreted as Han’s return to focusing on people’s livelihoods, having criticized direct overseas purchases of products without the National Integrated Certification Mark (KC) as “excessive regulation” in his first message on current issues since resigning as chairman of the emergency response committee in May.

People Power Party leader Han wrote on Facebook, “The management responsible for this incident, including Quten CEO Koo Young-bae, must quickly take responsibility,” and “Our People Power Party will take the lead in the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee to urge recovery from the damages and productively discuss ways to prevent recurrence, such as strengthening management and supervision of e-commerce companies and establishing safety measures for payment settlement.”

He added, “I regret that we did not strengthen some regulations and disclose information during the 2021 Merge Point incident.” At the time, Merge Point payments, which could be used at convenience stores and restaurants at discounted prices, were suspended, resulting in damages of 100 billion won. Representative Han said, “We must take this opportunity to come up with improvement measures for the reckless size expansion of e-commerce companies, cut-throat competition that puts consumers at risk, and the various settlement and payment storage methods.”
