The veteran singer and songwriter Hanan Yuval refused to perform in the Israeli Knesset on Memorial Day for the fallen of the IDF. The esteemed singer sent a message to the producer of the event, who inquired with him about the show, and wrote: “This is not my Knesset. To sing there in front of these rude people is to tell a big lie to myself. There is no shortage of food and there will never be a shortage in the Yuval family home. I have worked for integrity all my life. I had to write to you. Good luck and Shabbat Shalom.”

According to Ran Booker’s publication on Ynet, Yuval further wrote that “to this Knesset, of Almog Cohen, of Dodi Amsalem, of the company Gottlieb, of Galit Distel, of Aryeh Deri who enjoys the humor of Almog Cohen, of the chairman of the Knesset, who instead Reprimanding the filth, he forbids their photography, that they didn’t know outside, and more and more – shall I continue? And there is not even one righteous person who will stand up and cry out.”

In recent weeks, with the intensification of the protest against the reform in the judicial system, Yuval joined the musicians’ letter which mainly attacked the intention to close the corporation but also attacked the reforms in the judicial system. “We, ‘Musicians for Democracy’, stand together and express support for the employees of the Public Broadcasting Corporation. We came to say ‘Enough!’ “Free media and public broadcasting are the cornerstones of democracy, and it is no coincidence that someone who is trying to stage a coup d’état and empty Israeli democracy of its contents has chosen the elimination of public broadcasting as one of his first goals. The Public Broadcasting Corporation is one of the best and most important things that has happened in Israeli culture in the last decade,” it read.
