London The Handelsblatt pharmaceutical team has been awarded a European media prize. Siegfried Hofmann and Maike Telgheder were honored as “Media Commentators of the Year” at this year’s European Mediscience Awards. The award, which was presented in London last Thursday, honors the well-founded reporting by the two Handelsblatt editors on the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors as well as medical topics.

The European Mediscience Award has been honoring companies and personalities in the European life science and biotech industry for their achievements for the past 20 years. Technological innovations, management achievements but also successful communication, investments and transactions as well as journalistic reporting are recognized. Last year, for example, the Mainz-based biotech company Biontech received two awards for its mRNA vaccine – for the technology and the innovative breakthrough in the fight against Covid 19.

In addition to Siegfried Hofmann and Maike Telgheder, five other journalists and media teams were nominated for the media prize, including the Health Team of the British Financial Times. Siegfried Hofmann has been reporting on the pharmaceutical, biotech and chemical industries for more than two decades. Maike Telgheder has been a member of the pharmaceuticals and health team at Handelsblatt since 2008. Previously, she reported on the consumer goods industry, among other things. The two Handelsblatt editors were already nominated for the media prize of the European Mediscience Award in 2019. At that time, the pharmaceutical team from Bloomberg won.

The award is organized by the British events company Ford Sinclar and sponsored by various banks, financing companies and communications consultancies. Industry experts from these companies as well as from the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors are represented on the twelve-strong jury.
