Safety railings will be installed on some of the sidewalks in Burgas to prevent the dangerous crossing of busy streets and boulevards outside the pedestrian paths. Artificial bumps will also be placed on the roadway where necessary.

These are part of the measures outlined days before the start of the new school year at a meeting of the Regional Traffic Safety Commission.

At the meeting, led by the regional governor Prof. Maria Neikova, pressing issues were discussed related to the implemented activities to ensure the safety of traffic on the roads during the period June-September with a focus on the preparation for the beginning of the school year, the regional press center specified.

Municipalities in the Burgas region have expressed their readiness to ensure road safety for students. Before September 15, pedestrian paths are refreshed, traffic signs are cleared for greater visibility, traffic lights are checked.

“Taking preventive measures to ensure a safe environment for students is a large-scale activity on the part of all institutions, with which I see that no compromises are made. This will ensure peace of mind for both children and teachers, as well as their families,” said the regional manager Maria Neikova and expressed her gratitude for the responsible attitude and expediency in ensuring road safety.

Less than a week before the start of the new academic year, ongoing maintenance of road signs and elements related to traffic safety is carried out in places and restored where they are missing.

New footpaths are set aside and speed limits are introduced in road sections where students cross or where traffic accidents are concentrated.

There will also be year-round increased control by the OD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs-Burgas, near schools, dangerous areas, pedestrian crossings and intersections. In the municipalities of the district, the reconstruction and repaving of the road infrastructure continues, as well as the design and selection of contractors according to the projects of the District Road Administration.
