HandyGames Transitions to THQ Nordic Mobile for Premium Mobile Ports

HandyGames has officially transitioned to THQ Nordic Mobile as of August 7, 2026, shifting its brand focus entirely toward bringing premium PC and console ports to mobile platforms worldwide. The Giebelstadt-based veteran publisher aims to accelerate high-end adaptations of major gaming franchises for iOS, Android, and next-generation mobile devices.

The reorganization streamlines publishing operations and positions the group under the THQ Nordic brand to focus exclusively on mobile adaptations. Co-founders Christopher and Markus Kassulke will continue to direct both the publishing label and the development studio as part of the strategic realignment.

Pipeline Expansion and Franchises Set for Mobile

THQ Nordic Mobile is establishing a dedicated publishing pipeline designed to bring major intellectual properties from the broader THQ Nordic portfolio directly to mobile players. The new publishing entity builds on previous success with high-end mobile adaptations such as Wreckfest, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, and Titan Quest.

By consolidating these efforts under a unified brand, the organization intends to accelerate the development of high-end adaptations tailored for iOS, Android, and next-generation mobile platforms.

HandyGames Studios Retains Its 26-Year Heritage

While the publishing side adopts the new moniker, the internal development team stationed in Giebelstadt will maintain its operations under the name HandyGames Studios. Operating with a 26-year heritage, the studio will focus on original game development while actively supporting the technical porting pipelines required by THQ Nordic Mobile.

Headquartered in Giebelstadt near Würzburg, the team provides a modern working environment for international talent. The group traces its origins directly to HandyGames, continuing a history of award-winning titles—including Apple Design Awards and BAFTA accolades—as part of the broader Embracer Group.

Operations and Future Licensing Agreements

For external developers, existing partners, and players, the structural reorganization will be seamless. Current development pipelines, ongoing support for existing titles, and active licensing agreements remain fully operational, transitioning smoothly under the respective new branding structures without disruption.

The publisher’s broader operational footprint spans beyond mobile hardware. In addition to iOS and Android applications, the group’s output covers virtual reality titles like Townsmen VR, alongside traditional releases for PC storefronts including Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG, plus current-generation consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
