[Seoul = Mikihiko Ueno]On the 15th, Hani from the popular K-POP group “New Jeans” attended the national inspection of the National Assembly as a reference person on labor issues. In a video released to members in September about an internal conflict at their agency, he revealed that he was bullied by those involved. It is unusual for a current top idol to be brought to the Diet.

Hani belongs to ADOR, a label affiliated with the main entertainment agency HYBE, and is a party to HYBE’s internal conflict. In September, he became a hot topic when he revealed on a YouTube live stream that he had been ignored by another group manager within HYBE.
The Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly invited Kim Joo-young, the new ADOR representative, along with Hani, because the case comes under the labor issue of workplace bullying.
Hani said, “I was ignored so many times in the past that I thought I would be buried if I didn’t go to the National Assembly,” expressing her displeasure with Kim’s failure to resolve the matter. “I’m sure the company hates us,” she said through tears.
Kim claimed that “each other’s demands are conflicting,” and promised to improve the working environment, saying “I will listen carefully from now on.”
A national government audit is a place where members of the Diet can appeal to voters, like the Diet Budget Committee in Japan. Hani, who is in conflict with HYBE, has the advantage of easily getting public opinion on her side.
