Iranian Revolutionary Guard officials revealed that the Israeli Mossad recruited Iranian agents to plant explosive devices at Ismail Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran, leading to his assassination, according to the British newspaper The Telegraph.

The newspaper quoted unnamed Revolutionary Guard officials as saying that Iranian agents, acting on the instructions of the Israeli intelligence service, installed the bombs in three separate rooms inside the residence of the head of the political bureau of Hamas in the capital, Tehran.

According to the British newspaper, the Iranian armed forces are confident that Mossad hired agents from the Ansar al-Mahdi unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

She said that this unit is responsible for ensuring the security of high-ranking officials. During the investigation, two other explosive devices were found in two other rooms in the house where Haniyeh was staying.

Sources told The Telegraph that for Iranian intelligence services, the killing of the head of Hamas’s political bureau was “an insult and a major security breach,” and investigations are now underway within the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei calling for the dismissals, arrests and execution of those responsible for the failure.

According to what the newspaper quoted from an employee of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, for Khamenei, “dealing with the failure of the security services has become more important now” than revenge and response to Israel.
