The Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, welcomed this Wednesday “the firmness” of the reaction of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) considering that the sentencing on Tuesday of Mohamed Haouas, to one year in prison in Montpellier for domestic violence , was “incompatible” with the values of the French team.

Asked about France 2, she praised both “the firmness” and “the good words” of the FFR which deemed “inadmissible” and “incompatible with the representation of our nation at the international level” the condemnation of the player, but also the reaction of the Clermont club which terminated the contract of the player who was to join it in July.

“In these circumstances, it is impossible for him to carry the flag,” said the minister. “It will be up to Fabien Galthié the coach to speak definitively on this subject,” she said.

Should he be banned “permanently” from the France team? “Definitely, no, he will serve his sentence and we will have to think about the rest”. It is “a tragedy for this family and a huge mess”, she also reacted saying her “thoughts for his wife and for their two children”.

“Being a member of the France team implies irreproachable respect for the values of respect and integrity. Firmness is our duty in such circumstances, “said Serge Simon, vice-president of the FFR in charge of the French teams, on Tuesday evening, quoted in the press release where the body expressed “his dismay”.

The FFR has been in turmoil for its part in recent months with the resignation in January of its president Bernard Laporte after his two-year suspended prison sentence for corruption. An election is currently underway and the name of the new boss of French rugby will be known on June 14.
